This 1½-storey home was constructed for James E. Brown in 1885.The addition of the verandah in1914 gives the home its Queen Anne appearance. Mr. Brown became a partner in the Brown & Wigle Woolen Mill in 1885. The business quickly became successful setting a record for Canadian production in September of 1885. The Mill produced a wool blanket trademarked under the name “Au Saxony” that became famous throughout Canada. It was especially valued for its high quality during the Klondike gold rush days of 1898.
