John Malott House
Description
The John Malott House is a 1½ -storey house constructed in or about the year 1887 in the Folk Victorian style. The historical value of this property lies in its association with a succession of prominent residents. John Malott was the son of renowned great lakes captain and shipbuilder William J. Malott. Malott operated a bakery, confectionary, ice cream and oyster parlour. He sold the home in 1898 to William A. Smith, the former Reeve of Kingsville, and was the only lawyer in Kingsville in the late 1800s. The building is one of the few remaining examples of the vernacular architecture from a significant period in the town’s development.
