The Adolphus H. Woodbridge House
Description
The Adolphus H. Woodbridge House is a 2-storey house constructed in 1881 in the Gothic Revival style. The building’s historical value lies in its association with Adolphus H. Woodbridge, a shoemaker by trade and renowned practical joker. Woodbridge was Reeve of Gosfield South Township and a member of Essex County Council. He was active in community groups including the Oddfellows and the Methodist Church and was the inspector for the area poor house, the House of Refuge in Leamington. With his wife Amelia, Woodbridge had 10 children and farmed 45 acres of land on which the house was located.
